The institute Of Geomagnetism was established in 1971, is located
in Mumbai and was earlier known as the Colaba-Alibag Observatories,
which were part of the India Meteorological Department.
The Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism fosters scientific pursuits in geomagnetism
by conducting study and research in the fields of upper atmospheric geomagnetism and
solid earth geomagnetism.

Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowship
Every year, the Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism invites applications from research
scholars for pursuing doctoral programs in Geomagnetism and allied fields. Selected
candidates are required to pursue research work at Mumbai or at any other center
of the Institute during which time they are paid a scholarship of Rs.12000/- per month
(consolidated) for first and second years and Rs.14000/- per month in the subsequent years.
An additional book grant of Rs.6000/- per annum is provided to the students registered
for Ph.D. Advertisements for the Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowships
are published in the Employment News in the month of April every year.
Eligibility for Geomagnetism Research Fellowships
For application to the Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowships,
candidates having an M.Sc. / M.Sc.(Tech) in Physics / Applied Physics / Geophysics /
Applied Mathematics, with a minimum of 60% marks throughout and Physics as a subject
in B.Sc. are eligible. The maximum age limit for application is 28 years.
Selection Procedure for Geomagnetism Research Fellowships
Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowships are provided to candidates
who have enrolled themselves in any one of the various research programs at the
Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism. Selections to the doctoral programs are made on
the basis of a written test at the Institute in Mumbai followed by personal interview.
Application Procedure for Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowship
For application to the Indian Institute Of Geomagnetism Research Fellowship,
candidates are required to apply on plain paper giving name, age, address and
detailed academic record (10th Standard onwards) along with subject, percentage,
university and year of passing, and attested copies of certificates / degrees,
so as to reach the Registrar within one month of the publication of the advertisement.
To and from second-class train fare by the shortest route will be paid to outstation
candidates for attending the test / interview.
